Work: Plants Travelling around the World

The idea is to show that the first circumnavigation of the world by Magellan opened the opportunity for travelling not only for people but also for plants as well. Nowadays in parks, in private gardens, on windowsills we can find plants which are originally from different continents. One of Magellan’s goals was to research a new way to the Spice Islands. Basically, searching for exotic fruits was a part of that goal. My book is still in the process of creation because collecting plants and preservation them takes time. I am presenting one of the first pages of my future book for submission.

Each page is dedicated to the main stops of Magellan and Elcano during their trip. Also, the pages incorporate a plant from that stop and a quote from the diary by Antonio Pigaffeta. For example, Spain is represented by the grass Stipa which you can find as a decorative plant in many parks in the UK and which was used for making ropes on the ships of Magellan’s expedition. Folded size is A4, unfolded is A3 (landscape). The book is not for sale

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

I have experience of working in different areas. In the past I worked as an architect, designer
and artist. Bookbinding is my new passion. I like making hand-bound art books with my illustrations inside. At the same time, other projects which have connection with design, art and architecture still also interest to me.
