Artist: Stroud Artists Books, UK

Work: Magellan amended atlas (Voyage of Discovery)

Proposal details: Stroud Artists Books normally have a monthly theme to which members respond. We did plan to have Magellan’s voyage as one of our monthly themes but to allow the whole group to take part we have decided to make communal artwork in the form of an amended book/atlas. This will give all members the chance to alter, insert, amend, and basically disrupt the found book in any way they feel relates to the themes you suggest or their own insights into the voyage. This will give a totally unpredictable and uncontrollable result but we have no doubt that the end result will be an exciting mix of ideas, skills and techniques. Stroud artists Books exists to promote the artists book form and will be delighted if we can have a presence in this celebration. The final book will be available to be handled by the general public. Dimensions: (roughly) Height 45cms, width 30cms, depth 15cms. This will be an unique work and as such will not be for sale but would be available if
Liverpool Book Arts compile an archive.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Stroud Artists Books is a loose group of 25-30 book artists, with a core group of at least 15 artists at any meeting. We meet on a monthly basis to share work, discuss techniques and explore the infinite variety of what makes an ‘Artists Book’. We have a monthly theme that members respond to, and on www.stroudartistsbooks.co.uk you can see archives of our work. We also take part in exhibitions and provide and attend workshops. Members have a wide range of interests including book-binding, print-making, fine art, textiles, photography, digital work and more. We are a supportive and friendly group and love to encourage new members, whatever their skills or experience.
