About Us

I established Liverpool Book Art because of my passion for Artists’ Books. I’ve been attending fairs and exhibitions dedicated to artists’ books across the UK for a number of years, discovering, exploring, acquiring and getting engrossed in long conversations! In 2013, I felt it was time to try to raise the profile of artists’ books in my home city of Liverpool.

While there have previously been successful artists’ book fairs in Liverpool, at venues including the Bluecoat, Wolstenholme Projects and Camp & Furnace, I wanted to try something more ambitious. The idea for the exhibition leading up to the Fair came from the realization that not enough people know about artists’ books, and I wanted to try and expand the range and numbers of people involved, who might then be interested in attending the Fair.

I’ve been involved in the arts, culture and creative activities for many years, including being Chairman of the Bluecoat (leading it through the building redevelopment project and re-opening in time for Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture), and my consultancy business. The time now seems right to use that experience to organize the Fair and Exhibition, starting in 2014.

Thanks to all those who have given me advice, support and guidance, particularly Sarah Bodman at the Centre for Fine Print Research, UWE and Sean Rorke at Hot Bed Press. Thanks too to Helen Mackie for all her work to get us to this point.
